Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief support and services officer Tengku Zaib Raja Ahmad said the grants would be awarded for US Senior Specialist Grant for technology transfer through research projects implemented in Malaysia and US Senior Researcher Grant for US researchers to embark in research projects benefiting both countries.
Tengku Zaib disclosed this in his remarks at the exchanging memorandum of understanding (MoU) ceremony with Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) on the Fulbright-MCMC Grant here, Tuesday.
He exchanged the MoU with MACEE director Dr James Coffman, and witnessed by MCMC chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie and Deputy Chief Mission of US Embassy in Malaysia, Edgard Kagan.
Based on the MoU, MCMC would contribute up to RM5 million of funding for a period of five years for the four types of grants.
Tengku Zaib said application for the grants were open to individuals as well as to project teams from institutions, agencies or organisations and the research areas within the communications and multimedia areas.
The research categories included digital civil society, communications and multimedia technology and technical competency and regulatory and policy, he added.
He said application for the grant was now open and the first batch of grant recipients from Malaysia would be in the United States by September this year.
